We just dropped Kevin off to his first day of kindergarten.

After I gave him all my final “goodbyes” & “don’t forgets” I stood back & waited for them to whisk him away.

He took one final look back.

Even though I was standing behind the glass door, I could see straight through those brown eyes. He will be ok.

I feel excited for him but so terrified of moving on to a new season. There will be lots of people to meet & words to read, I know they’ll teach him more than I ever could. There’s a little relief in the fact that he is going to be taken care of. That he will be amazing.
There will be artwork to display, new songs to sing, & sweet tales of his new adventures.

I had to hold back big elephant tears as he lined up inside the school. It reminded me of saying goodbye to Rocky when he left for basic training. We had been married for a year & it was our first goodbye (of many). I wanted to cling to him, but sometimes you do what you have to do.

    And let go.

i can’t imagine what this will feel like! dropping benjy off at daycare was so traumatic for me, i had to make olli do it everyday!

    • Andrea - September 4, 2011 - 8:50 am

Sarah, that first day was really hard for me. But now it’s getting more normal to take him over there. He is enjoying himself and already learning so much. I don’t like that he’s getting so big, but it does feel “right” that he’s there. Definitely makes me want to squeeze baby Damian every single chance I get 😀

    • […] it is so odd to pack his lunch so young! You can see more on my photography blog here. I am really impatient to hear how his day […]

I’ve been a little bit of everywhere & just got home today. I don’t typically book more than one wedding a weekend, so this week was an epic exception. Here are some previews of them, plus a bonus little tidbit from Abby & Brett’s local Dayton wedding from just a couple weeks ago:

Abby was the embodiment of a classic vintage bride, I kept thinking she reminded me of the elegant Grace Kelly. I loved how she mixed simplicity & tradition for a stunning timeless style. You might remember Abby & Brett from their lovely garden themed engagement session.

    Something old, something new
    Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe…

I love that Abby substituted a penny!

Last week’s weddings began on Wednesday in Newport, Rhode Island at the Chanler Inn at Cliff Walk. My husband, Rocky, joined me for a spectacular, intimate, celebration for Brynn & Ryan with some very close family & friends.

There was also a yummy sunrise day after session just below the Chanler Inn at the beach. An East Coast wedding is perfect for a sunrise session.

We flew back to Dayton & after a few hours with my two sons, I drove to Peninsula, Ohio for Lacey & Brian’s heart pounding DIY {adventure} wedding. They had planned an outdoor ceremony, but a sudden downpour of rain rerouted their plans. They moved the ceremony indoors & it was one of the most heartfelt exchange of vows I’ve ever witnessed. Their families & guests were so gracious & supported them throughout the entire day. When they were announced as husband & wife it was like the triumphant ending of a romantic novel. We were all rooting for this sweet couple! I posted their engagement session recently too.

I stayed in Cleveland for Yana & Aaron’s sweet DIY wedding at Music Mound, a Berea Metro Park. Their reception was at the lovely & historic Grand Pacific Junction Hotel. Yana & her family created amazing original DIY projects that gave her wedding a unique & personal atmosphere. It was very special to have her culture reflected in the wedding day too. They reminded me so much of Rocky & I as a (younger) couple & it was such a treat to celebrate with them & photograph their beautifuly creative wedding!

Thank you all for allowing me to be part of your weddings, there will be so much more to see in the coming weeks! I was married in August almost seven years ago, this month has a special place in my heart for very obvious reasons.

I want to send a big Thank You to Style Me Pretty for featuring Erin & Pete’s wedding on their blog today! It is such an honor to see my work there!

If you’ve e-mailed me lately, please forgive me for not being in touch while I unpack & get readjusted to being home. I am so excited to share a fortune of images & finish telling these stories I’ve started sharing. I think a run to the grocery store might be necessary first though. ♥

Brynn’s dress is so dreamy! Wow! Congrats on all these fabulous weddings! From the teasers, you did {as usual} an amazing job! I can’t wait to see them each in depth. 🙂 xo

    • Andrea - September 4, 2011 - 8:54 am

Renee, thanks so much! I truly enjoyed being there! It was a beautiful day, but I keep telling Yana that my favorite part was just how much love was felt by everyone. It was such a celebration, the way a wedding should be! I hope you all enjoy the pictures! Michelle, thanks for always being so encouraging! I love that we get to keep up with each other and share our work. I hope we actually meet someday 😀

Seriously gorgeous, Andrea! Those brides are all very lucky that you were there to capture their weddings! 🙂

    Damian turned one.

I want to be a good mom. There just wasn’t a lot of time to really sit down & plan this party, so I entered into the weekend a little frantic. I had one full day set aside to decorate & bake for a party that didn’t have a theme.

There were several ideas. Should we do a traditional Fourth of July party since he was born on the 5th? Maybe it would be a good time to do his first Greek themed party, since his middle name is Achilles & his dad loves Spartacus. Is it too early for Thomas? He’s kind of into playing with his brother’s trains…

Then the mail came. And a very pretty pretty cake stand that I won from Sweet & Saucy Supply arrived.
One look at this lovely yellow beauty, and a concept was born.

Damian is accustomed to listening to Florence & The Machine, Adele, & Bon Iver, but he does know & love one nursery rhyme: If All the Raindrops. This has been a lifesaver since he was less than a month old, we would sing it and watch his tiny mouth open for the chorus, “Standing outside with my mouth open wide… ah ah ah…” Kevin knew that to calm his baby brother down, he needed to hear us sing that. Soon Damian was singing with us & it is one of the most precious memories I have of his infancy. I decided to focus on part of a lyric, lemondrops & gumdrops, for the loose theme of his party. I took the meaning a little whimsical & of my own interpretation, but that made a lot of things come together in a very short amount of time. One stressful day.

I had a lot of help from my family & I can not thank them enough! My sister Abby & her boyfriend Zach made the pom pom tissue balls. My brothers hung the streamers for the photo booth backdrop! I WISH I had a picture of them doing that, it turned out beautiful.

I baked vanilla bean cupcakes & lemon mini cupcakes & my sister frosted the cupcakes. I always kind of wing it with the frosting, since I still have yet to unpack cookbooks {oh my}. You can tell I don’t do a lot of experimental baking anymore.

I love this beautiful 6″ Yellow Hobnail Cake Stand from My Sweet & Saucy Supply that I won for commenting on their Facebook Page! It came just in time.

I found the cupcake liners at Jo Ann Fabrics along with a slew of cute new goodies from Martha Stewart. It was hard to decide which ones to select.

In retrospect, I would have loved to devote time for crafts ahead of time.
I would have enjoyed gluing the rope into the word “one” instead of burning my fingers in haste.

I made a bean salsa & used the cans to make a toss game. I used wrapping paper scraps & wooden stars leftover from a previous project.

As I mentioned a few posts ago, Damian was not himself during his party & ended up in the ER two days later.
I am so happy to see some very happy moments shine through…

You may notice this little Thomas on his plate. His big brother “gifted” it to him just before he ate his cake. It was a very sweet moment because I know how much Kevin loves those trains & what it meant for him to “give” it to Damian. I missed photographing it of course.

His signal when he’s eaten enough:

I was in heaven when I found these classic toys at Target on clearance for half the original price.

Rocky worked so hard to help set everything up & pick up food for the party. This was definitely a “we did it” picture.

Damian’s cousin Nathaniel just turned one too & loved the balloons.

As the sun set, we brought out baby jar containers for catching fireflies. Definitely a hit with the older kids.

It’s very bittersweet to say goodbye to Damian’s baby days. In some ways I’ve known him all my life, in others it went entirely too fast. I’m so thankful for this past year & all the joy that he has brought us. For being able to be together & grow so close as a little family. When he used to wake up at night for feedings, I was so happy for extra time to hold him & cuddle with such a tiny new friend. I tried so hard not to take any of it for granted, because I knew how quickly Kevin grew up.  As I see him grow to look more like his Dad & admire his big brother, I know even better days are ahead.

Perhaps I’m biased because he so openly & affectionately loves me, but I just can’t think of a more perfect way to spend my life. ♥

I saw this on Design Sponge & crossed my fingers that illustrator Tad Carpenter sold this print. I wasn’t the only one who e-mailed him, so he did decide to release these beautiful letterpress prints in white & brown versions! Check out his blog for info on how to get your own!

No matter what we do to fix up this darling old house, the three “mans” I share it with are definitely the very best part. ♥

      That’s so sweet! 🙂 I completely agree.

    • alli - July 30, 2011 - 7:58 pm

Oh I love this, it is so true!

And of course it looks adorable in your home.

When I met Erin & Pete, I could see how sweet they would be to work with. She shyly told me that they weren’t photogenic, then they burst out in laughter over some hilarious memory of previous self portraits. I completely disagreed. When two people really care about each other & feel comfortable together, it will show.

I took their wedding portraits at Dayton’s Carillon Park. It is a historical museum dedicated to Dayton, Ohio history & pride. There are mini museums & vintage replicas of homes. I think everyone who attends school in the Miami Valley has been here at some point. Now as a photographer, I had so much fun with all the backdrops that were steps away from each other. Carillon Park is a perfectly historical & quirky venue for a wedding.

The way he looks at her & lights up around her is what every girl dreams to find… I love that I get to be part of witnessing so many dreams come true.

There were light showers off & on throughout their wedding day morning. When we spoke about it during their portrait session, Pete said with a smile, “If it does rain again, maybe we’ll see a rainbow!” With an outlook like that on life, their marriage will be pretty amazing.

Erin’s make up was done by her maid of honor, Kaitlin. She was stunning, loved her eyeshadow!

From Erin, about the centerpieces: We had everyone we know save their condiment jars for us and I could not have been more thrilled with the result.
My dad and I made the candles (while my mom and Pete supervised). After they were set, I wrapped them with old sheet music we bought at a thrift store.

Her beautiful cake was made by The Cakery. Erin says the lemon cake with key lime frosting was her favorite… I agree! It was hands down the best cake I’ve tasted at a wedding!

Invitations: For save the dates we used vintage postcards that we bought on ebay. We had a stamp made with a little picture of us and our wedding date. Our friend Val is an amazing graphic designer and she put together our beautiful invitations for us. She also helped me choose our wedding colors.

Most memorable moment of your wedding day? The whole day was so beautiful and memorable we can’t pick just one!

What song did you walk down the aisle to? The wedding march

First dance song? Here, There, and Everywhere by The Beatles

Pete & Erin, I wish you all the best! Thanks for asking me to capture your lovely wedding… I think you two take some insanely good pictures. ♥
