Since Trang & Phong are from Colorado, I wasn’t able to meet them until their wedding day. However it did not take long to see they were obviously meant to be together! Friends and family traveled from around the world to celebrate the beginning of their marriage. It was amazing to come home & see so many beautiful memories I was honored to capture with my camera.

    Trang is just lovely…

I was very excited about witnessing my first traditional Asian wedding! It started with a home ceremony:

I’ve always loved purple over pink… good choice Trang.

I loved how several family members played roles in their ceremony.

Then they had a traditional Catholic ceremony at Sacred Heart Church:

We met at Wegerzyn Gardens for portraits…

Unfortunately the outdoor portraits were interrupted by a thunderstorm just minutes after they began…

    Their reception was incredible:

I love fun speeches during the toasts. I also fell in love with this little guy, who I believe is their nephew!

Trang & Phong, it was such an honor to capture your wedding day in photographs… so very happy for you two! Stay cozy in Colorado ♥

Wonderful work! The images are just gorgeous. And that bride… wow, she is stunning and belongs on the cover of a glamour magazine. Just beautiful!

It was 2005 and we had orders to move to Texas. We were headed into uncharted territory: the military. I had no experience with it and Rock never seemed inclined to be the type of person to join. But a year into our marriage we were boxing up our few belongings and taking a deep breath. The kind you take before you make a big jump. And you’re just hoping that the ground will be kind to you on the other side.

I assumed that after Texas, we’d be given an exotic assignment. Germany. Italy. Japan?
I quit college to follow Rocky to a little base in a big state.

After being separated for the summer, I found out our next duty station while I was driving to join Rocky. Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Right back to where we started. We were both relieved that we would be going “home.” It was definitely a blessing. But knowing that I could essentially pick up where I had left off in college, I wondered if it was the best timing to have a baby. But it was too late to wonder, Kevin was due in March.

His birth made me realize that I couldn’t take a single “good” picture. I didn’t know how to focus the camera & I started begging Rocky to teach me how to do it. As a stay at home mom finishing my design degree, I didn’t have the luxury to leave the house for my assignments. I ended up doing a lot of food photography in the kitchen for various class projects. I had an itty bitty camera {not even a DSLR}, but I studied light & metering like a maniac. When I had the vision for a certain shot, I would ask Rocky how to do it. He patiently explained the technicalities of shutter speeds, ISO changes, white balance, etc. When I had free time, I’d photograph baby Kevin. Capturing him in those moments was pure euphoria.

He has been the passion, the catalyst, and the face of my photography journey. No bride would have ever Facebooked me inquiring about doing their wedding if I didn’t have million pictures of Kevin plastered all over them. Because I didn’t plan to grow up & be a wedding photographer. I just wanted to record his life & be a good graphic designer. He changed all of that & made it easy for photography to find me.

Today I took Kevin out and photographed him. It was like old times, but he’s almost my size & thinks he’s a grown man. This was Kevin’s Easter outfit {yes from last Spring}. I kept meaning to photograph him in it but never got around to it. “We’ve sort of had a lot going on,” is definitely an understatement. I fell in love with this suit when I saw it, I think it would be a fun take on a ring bearer’s attire for a casual wedding!

That poor tie kept falling off. Made for many photographs of him adjusting it.

His tie makes me laugh. I wasn’t allowed to touch it. Four year olds can be so stubborn, but it just makes for even more personalized photographs.

He let me hold his hand while I led him out of the tall grass. I cherish every time he lets me, because I know my opportunities to do it are limited.

It was hilarious to “work” with him. He has a lot of attitude lately & I had to bribe & beg most of the time to get him to stand in the right light. Posing him was useless, he would pretty much do the opposite… or run…

This evening as I arranged these photographs for this post I remembered why I ever picked up a camera in the first place.

Kevin, you are getting so tall that it makes me cringe. I miss the baby with rubber band arms. But your humor & sweetness make me appreciate you as you are. I will replay this evening a million times because of these images. I’m so glad I have them, because it was so special to spend time with just you again.

Thank you for being perfectly on time & changing me in so many ways that I forget who I used to be. ♥

OMG these are utterly adorable. Just beautiful!!

Nikki is a beauty. It’s easy to see why Bobby has been smitten with her for the past several years! I love working with couples who have been together so long that you can hardly tell which side is “the groom’s” or “the bride’s.” Everyone mingles together seamlessly and shares in all the excitement of the day…

There was so much love and emotion between Nikki, her sisters, and mother. It was so special to be around them as they helped her prepare for the ceremony.

You’ve watched & participated in your older sisters’ weddings. What was it like actually experiencing it all first hand?

STRESSFUL! But it was all worth it! I thought it would be easy to plan a wedding- well i didnt realize what all came with the “planning!”

Was there anything you’ve learned from having family get married that helped in planning your wedding?

Everything! I am so thankful I had my mom to help me. My mom planned most of my sisters wedding so she had it down when it came to he 3rd wedding!!

What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?

Staring into Bobby’s eyes as I repeated my vows/ having the most important people in our lives all together to celebrate our big day!!

You always seemed calm about wedding details when we spoke, any tips for future brides when it comes staying organized?

I was very calm thanks to my mom!! She took a lot of the stress off of me! But just follow your little “wedding schedule” for when everything needs to be done by- it helps!

Thanks for sharing Nikki, and congratulations to you two! ♥

Andrea, what beautiful photos. However you had great people to work with. Nikki was a gorgeous bride and Bobby a most handsome groom. Congratulations to them and to you for a job well done.

      Just beautiful. Love the light.

This blog was actually born just over a year ago.

There have been many lessons learned, many sweet people who have stood in front of my lens, many logo revisions… and hopefully a lot of growth.

In addition to these things, there have also been many nights spent listening to Pandora while I edit and write. This song played one evening and I have been hooked ever since. I thought it would be a pretty soundtrack to listen to as you view little baby Ally’s photographs…

Ally’s family was about to leave town to go home to Texas. We had coordinated a photo session that would take place just before they left. I was so disappointed when I woke up to grey clouds and soft rain. It’s beautiful in and of itself, but not ideal for newborn portraits outside. We were so fortunate that when we arrived and set up, everything cleared up and we had a beautiful morning shoot.

So my little dream, is to convert a portion of our home for a newborn studio. A place where mamas can bring new babies and not have to hold their breath & pray the weather will perfectly cooperate. This won’t happen for some time or maybe not this house… but someday.

Ally has two older brothers, so her mama, Kelly, is so thrilled to dress her up in ruffles & flowers & PINK! Since I have two boys as well, photographing a beautiful five pound baby girl was heavenly…

    Sweet dreams ♥

Oh geesh she is so freakin little! and absolutly adorable!!!

    • […] I had to share with you…. my friend Andrea is an amazing photographer and her gift to me was this….Ally’s Photoshoot! […]

This summer has been eventful for my little {growing} family, so I’ve devoted several posts to personal stories. There have been some great things happening for other people too, like Jimmy & Ashley! They were married Memorial Day weekend in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at the historical Orrmont Estate in Piqua, Ohio. They look like movie stars and they are so incredibly fun. You will notice so many genuine smiles & an abundance of laughter from their lovely day…

I’ve decided to start asking my brides to share a little about their day, so stay tuned for Ashley’s take at the end!

Isn’t her bouquet of anemone flowers gorgeous!? Good choice Ashley!

We started at the romanesque Troy Hayner Cultural Center for some pre-ceremony portraits.

The Miami County Courthouse is located just across the street. It was a great place for such a large wedding party. I’m always thrilled when couples want to take portraits at unique locations.

It was in the 90s that day, so between some portraits we found shelter inside Dunaway’s Beef N Ale. It gave us all a moment to breathe, freshen up, and just relax. I think every bride should find a “Dunaway’s” on her day.Since I was nine months pregnant at the time, I {unfortunately} did not get to taste one…

Ashley will explain this one at the end… truly an unforgettable moment!

The Orrmont Estate is picturesque for the ceremony, has several options for portrait backdrops, and has a tent for the reception.

Clever way to bring a new spin on this tradition!

I smiled & laughed so much, it was absolutely contagious. Loved all the ruffles she incorporated into the day:

Here are some questions I sent to Ashley, and even though she is super busy coaching soccer, she kindly provided some insight into her wedding experience!

What was your favorite wedding memory?

There are so many things! However, If I had to pick one would be the beginning of the ceremony when my dad messed up his only line and everyone lost it. My favorite pictures from that day is everyone laughing with them. It was great that he broke the tension and I felt like I could relax from that point on.

Something you learned that you might have done differently?

I wish I could have made a decision and stuck with it!!! I am so indecisive! By the time of the wedding, I am thankful that I still had 9 bridesmaids/best friends standing up for us on that day. I made them order dresses then cancel their orders, pick out their own dress then return them because I didn’t like the color! It was never ending. Finally, I found the prefect ruffled champagne colored dress but in all the wrong sizes. So each bridesmaid had to basically have the dress remade to fit! They should have hated me by the end. So, my advice, pick something and don’t think about it again.

Where did you get so inspired for all your amazing creative projects?

    I am obsessed with wedding blogs! Well, obsessed might be an understatement. I spent countless hours looking at different blogs trying to find ideas. I owe a lot of the final products to my sister and Kim Chamberlain {Cards by Kim – check it out. She’s the best and can design anything!}. We would sit at work and shoot emails to each other of ideas or “themes” that we thought worked with the outdoor, casual, wedding that Jimmy and I wanted. There probably wasn’t one thing that I decided on without asking those two first! Kim made all the designing happen….I would just mention something I thought was cute or a color combo I liked and she would make it. {Here is a link to Ashley’s stationery & decor by Kim, click here!}

Ashley’s experience as a bride actually led her to begin a new business venture:

Where to begin with this…After working for a dermatologist I swore off both tanning beds and excessive sun exposure. We had so many older patients that were in for wrinkles and sun damage and constantly complaining about their skin and I knew that I had to change my lifestyle.  That lead me to became obsessed with sunless tanning products in an attempt to have color year round. Through a friend I heard about Tan Envy and tracked down a woman to spray my sister and I before our Derby Shower at my house!! The next morning I knew we had to own this because I couldn’t imagine not getting spray tanned every week. I can spray each person to the color they’d like to be without looking orange or even smelling like some of the sunless tanning products. With a few instructions the tan can last for around 5-7 days and in 12 hours it looks like you’ve been vacationing for a week on the beach! I love that we own this and can give others the perfect tan without the damaging effects!

You can read more about Better Off Bronze here.

I can not thank Jimmy & Ashley enough for allowing me the honor to capture their wedding day. I was so touched by the way everyone looked out for me, I’m blessed to have such supportive families to work with! I also have to thank my sister-in-law Amy Dozier of Affordable Photography & Lauren Worman of eLL Photography who stepped in and filled in for Rocky {this wedding was just shortly after his surgery}. I am so grateful that I have local connections in the industry to help when we really needed it! I’ll leave you with a behind the scenes shot Lauren took…

Nine months preggo, I don’t miss that particular stage ♥

Thank you for capturing them on film. As I am sure Ashley will agree, the day went by so fast those pictures are much appreciated. I hope all is well with you and your family! Much love, Tiffany
