Pantone chose Honeysuckle 18-2120 as the color of the year. It is beautiful, but to be honest, I keep coming across varieties of Seafoam. Especially in interior & wedding design. It isn’t as strong as staples like Turquoise, Aqua, or Kelly Green, yet embodies all the brightness & energy of their hues. It also delicately complements handmade & organic wedding details. I have such a huge color crush on it, {as Ez of Creature Comforts would say}!

What do you think, Honeysuckle or Seafoam?

    * This is a picture of Italian buttons I plan to use in my studio {or I might just wear one as a ring}. ♥

I agree Andrea. Honeysuckle is fun, but I am loving Seafoam much more!
      Beautiful.

The seafoam is beautiful! I love the color and the way it accents perfectly.

Definitely Seafoam! I’m not overly excited about honeysuckle.

I am really excited to share Stephen & Autumn’s wedding story with you today! It’s amazing how they lived several states away and didn’t meet until they both lived in a foreign country. They fell in love while serving as missionaries in beautiful Haiti.

Autumn took a risk by having her wedding in March, but the weather was kind & unusually gorgeous for Ohio. I love working with my favorite makeup artist Ruby Randall & hair stylist Amy Barger. It’s pretty much the wedding dream team that a bride could have. I’ve known both of them for many years & it’s always very fun to work with them at weddings.

Explaining how to dive into the dress…

Loved the “wrap” they used to cover her dress while touching up Autumn’s make-up!

    All ready to go now…

I love the way they look at each other ♥

I love when grooms sing to their moms. When I photograph weddings I imagine what it will be like to dance with my sons someday a LONG time from now I hope.

It’s inspiring when you “meet” the couple who’s been married the longest. They were so cute!

Wishing you both all the best, huge hugs go out to Haiti for you both! ♥

My desk is located in the eat-in part of my kitchen. I’ve been very excited to transition it from being a clump in the corner to a space that reflects what I love. This past weekend we painted my editing “studio” with Martha Stewart’s Glass of Milk {white} paint. It always amazes me what a little paint will do to refresh a tired room.

I made a DIY Doily Lantern {sans the lantern part} I’ve been seeing so much on Pinterest. Here it is pre-balloon pop.
Still working out the kinks in getting it to keep it’s round shape. Any ideas would be awesome!

Rock & Kevin put together the Ikea furniture. I think Kevin is more help than I am with tools.

You can see what has inspired me on my Pinterest board here. I can’t wait to share the whole area when we are finished {“befores” too}… getting close! ♥

How dare you tease us like this? Hehehe!

When I visited Alli Michelle of Hooray Design & Lifestyle blog to photograph her house for Design*Sponge, I was delighted that she also put together a very lovely Easter dessert table inspiration. It was so much fun to photograph, complete with DIY colored doilies. I found myself thoroughly enjoying editing these beautiful pastel images during this {long} winter. It is still not quite “spring” around here, flowers are starting to bloom but there are still lots of cool temperatures. I have been impatiently waiting for the weather to warm up so Rocky & I can paint my home studio {where I edit, not take pictures}. I think I will love when the mismatched walls are covered with a fresh coat of paint. It will be a major before & after project, I am really excited to work in the “after” this wedding season. I’ve already noticed it is so much more calming to work in an organized environment. I will post some pictures + some little tricks I’ve been discovering for keeping an inspired but tidy workspace for photographers.

Hope these colorful images brighten your week! Can you believe Easter will be here before we know it?

Check out her alternative Easter grass solution: remnants of fabric made into fringe! I love it!

You can see Alli’s post on Hooray Design Blog here.

Thank so much for the lovely eye candy Alli! I had so much fun photographing this set! ♥

Courtney & I went to the same high school (Vandalia Butler). I saw her briefly last year while doing a mini kid’s portrait session for a mutual friend, and I believe she was just getting to know this guy… Chris. She’d been set up by her best friend and soon found herself planning an Ohio wedding from Oklahoma to her handsome soldier. When we met to go over her wedding timeline & have a little chat, we were wearing the same headband. I knew with such exquisite mutual taste in accessories, her wedding was going to be awesome & we would get along wonderfully. 😀

Chris & Courtney were married this past December at St. Christopher Parish in Vandalia, Ohio.

I tell all my couples this, and it’s so true. I LOVE the moment when the married couple exits the ceremony with relief & effortless enthusiasm… it’s one of my favorite parts of the day to photograph.

For the next set, they braved the very cold weather to go downtown to Riverscape for a very quick portrait session. I was so impressed with Courtney’s fearlessness!

I love when the wedding party is willing to be a little adventurous, it makes the photographs more like how you normally are as opposed to “looking like you are going to be fired at” (Jose Villa).

They look gorgeous even though it was so cold!

Courtney & Chris held their wedding reception at Top of the Market Banquet Center that is located in downtown Dayton as well. You can check more on their site, but it is a “recently renovated facility offers exposed brick walls, cathedral ceilings, climate controlled rooms, A/V equipment, full service bars, complimentary well lit parking, and is completely handicap accessible. Our on-site full service catering team can provide any level of food service you desire: from a deli-style boxed lunch to the most formal hor’dourves and entrées imaginable.” Read more here.

During the toasts, Courtney’s late mother, Cynthia, was honored & remembered fondly. Much of the wedding was planned through her hard work & excitement for Chris & Courtney.

When Chris & Courtney went to cut their cake, they surprised us with shoving cake at the MOH & Best Man instead of each other… so awesome!

Courtney’s two sisters joined her for the Father Daughter Dance, I saved this sacred moment for the last image.

Chris & Courtney, thank you for inviting me to be part of such an incredible, intimate day. I hope that through the images I’ve given you, you are able to remember it
just as you saw it for the first time when you lived it. ♥
